HVAC Repair Guide
Signs Your System is in Need of a Repair from Your Local Blue Collar Technician
Knowing When an Immediate Repair is Needed
Understanding when a repair is needed allows you to address issues faster. This guide is designed to help you make an informed decision. Here’s what to look out for when deciding if you need to call Blue Collar Mechanical for your HVAC repair:
1. Loud Noises Coming from Equipment
Unusual sounds like grinding, squealing, banging, or rattling are your system’s way of telling you something’s wrong. These noises can indicate loose parts, worn bearings, failing motors, or debris in the unit. Don’t ignore them—what starts as a minor issue can quickly become a major (and expensive) repair if left unaddressed.
2. Oil or Wet Spots Around Equipment
Notice oily residue or moisture around your HVAC equipment that’s not from sprinklers? This could indicate a refrigerant leak, condensate drain issue, or compressor problem. Refrigerant leaks reduce cooling efficiency and can damage your system, while water leaks can lead to mold growth and structural damage. Either way, it needs immediate attention.
3. Unusually Long Runtimes
If your system is running constantly or for extended periods without reaching your set temperature, it’s working overtime—and costing you money. Long run times can be caused by dirty coils, low refrigerant, undersized equipment, poor insulation, or a failing compressor. Your system should cycle on and off regularly, not run endlessly.
4. High Electrical Bills
A sudden spike in your electric bill without increased usage is often a red flag that your HVAC system is losing efficiency. Dirty filters, refrigerant leaks, aging equipment, or malfunctioning components force your system to work harder and consume more energy. If your bills are climbing, your AC is likely struggling.
5. Unit Shutting Off and On Too Frequently
This is known as short cycling—when your system turns on and off every few minutes instead of completing normal cooling cycles. It puts tremendous strain on your equipment and drives up energy costs. Common causes include oversized units, thermostat issues, refrigerant problems, or dirty air filters. This constant starting and stopping significantly reduces your system’s lifespan.

EXCELLENT Based on 146 reviews Posted on Stefanie CummingsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an amazing experience with Blue Collar Mechanical this weekend. We already had an appointment scheduled for May 11th Monday evening, but after getting home from our Mother’s Day event, we realized our AC had completely stopped blowing cold air and the house was already over 80 degrees. We thought we could make it until Monday, but quickly realized that wasn’t going to happen. After reaching back out to them, Blue Collar Mechanical had a technician at our house within two hours on a Sunday evening. He quickly diagnosed the issue as a failed capacitor and had everything repaired and running again in no time. The technician was extremely polite, professional, and took the time to explain everything he was checking and doing throughout the process. He also went over their maintenance plans with us, and after the level of service we received, signing up was an easy decision. It’s hard to find companies that still provide this kind of customer service and responsiveness. We truly appreciate the fast help and professionalism. Highly recommend Blue Collar Mechanical!Posted on Christina CummingsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Went to a baseball game on Mother’s Day and came home to the house at 85. Messaged Blue Collar Mechanical and they were able to come out same day. So thankful especially with the rising heat coming. Devin was very professional kind.Posted on Mark KaufmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Blue collar Mechanical techs arrived on time and performed the most thorough hvac service I have ever experienced. Upon completion of inspection we determined to upgrade our 20 year old system. Again, they arrived at the scheduled time and completed the installation in a timely and professional manner. The unit was not operating as expected. Richard, the owner arrived the next day and began troubleshooting the system. The problem was determined to be the nest thermostat from our previous system. He replaced the thermostat with a Honeywell brand at no additional cost. He then balanced the system for proper operation and we are very happy with the results. The new unit provides a very comfortable environment in our home. We are also very happy about the 10 year parts and labor warranty provided with our new system. I highly recommend Blue collar mechanical for all of your hvac needs.Posted on Vern KoehlingerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I moved into a new build in the North Copper Canyon (NCC) Community in Surprise approximately 21 months ago. We both noticed that once the triple digits hit earlier this March that our A/C unit appeared to be struggling to cool and regulate humidity. I am a big fan of supporting local small businesses and I go out of my way to conduct business with veteran owned and operated companies. I conducted my due diligence and discovered amazing reviews for Blue Collar Mechanical, a veteran owned and operated HVAC business located within the NCC Community. I called Blue Collar Mechanical this afternoon and spoke with the owner Richard Urquia, and explained the above mentioned; four hours later he was at my front door greeting me with a handshake. Richard proceeded to surgically inspect the air handling unit settings/readings and the ductwork in the crawl space as well as our ecobee thermostat. In the ten years that I have lived in AZ I have never experienced such an extraordinarily professional knowledgeable patient and thorough HVAC pro!! Richard is next level!! And Richard provided me with a master class tutorial regarding our HVAC system. Moving forward I will be using Blue Collar Mechanical exclusively and referring Richard’s company to all of my family friends and neighbors!! Highly recommend!!!
